It’s Spring. Gardening as exercise.
According to About.com, there are LOTS of calories to be burned by gardening. For example (if you weigh 150 lbs, you burn more if you weigh more), if you
- till your garden, you burn 408 calories an hour
- rake your yard, you burn 292 calories an hour
- trim trees & shrubs (manually) 306 calories an hour
- weeding burns 306 calories calories an hour
- watering your lawn burns 102 calories an hour
So spend time in your yard, people! Even TWO hours will burn significant calories, plus you’ll get the satisfaction of having a beautiful yard, you will get some fresh air, and if you have kids, you can spend time teaching them how to care for a yard, too! :)
I spent nearly 3 hours pulling weeds (okay, they were in gravel, I had to dig a LOT), but it was wonderful to be out in the fresh air, my neighbors periodically came by to speak to me. It was a productive, gratifying afternoon! And the bonus is my drive/parking area looks SPIFFY! :)
Have a fit week, folks! Take care of yourself!
